Lake Maggiore

Friday 6th May
Lake Maggiore and we have a free day.  We decide with Dom and Rena to catch the cable car to go up the Italian mountains near Lake Maggiore and it was a glorious morning.  Himself isn’t all that fond of heights but is very brave going up.  It was a little bit hazy but the views were stunning and whilst we could only see the pre alps they were spectacular.  It really was a sight to behold.  We did a bit of walking around and really enjoyed it.   After we came down we walked into the town to buy a bottle of vino, well we ended up buying 2 bottles of the vino and some cheese and strawberries and bread and took it back to our room and sat on the balcony and wined and dined.  Of course these supplies didn’t last us to long and it wasn’t long before Rena and I were ambling back up to the village for more vino and beers and cheese and bread to replenish the supplies.   Oh dear and then we headed out to a lovely dinner for more vino, and of course being nicely primed we had a fabulous night.  One of the Canadian single ladies decided that she would like a souvenir tea pot from the restaurant, so the table conspired to get the tea pot for her.  It was all wrapped up like a Christmas parcel and then all of a sudden we hear this almighty crash and she had dropped the tea pot and smashed it to pieces.  Himself who is a master at pilfering beer glasses was offering all the advice under the sun on the best way to get this tea pot out undetected was shocked at the smash . I guess you had to be there at the time but it was hilarious and our whole table was nearly crying wth laughter.  Let me tell you that himself had gone around all the other tables and just taken their red wine off the tables and brought it back to our table, primarily for his consumption.  But of course we were celebrating as our last case had arrived to our room at 1900 this evening.   So we now have all of our belongings back with us.  Oh my goodness it does feel good.  We are quiet sorry to leave Lake Maggiore as it was so beautiful and we had such a great time there.  But tomorrow we head for Venice, but the news is that the Pope is following us to Venice. He apparently wanted to come on our bus tour but it was booked out,  so he has decided to follow us….the dear old Pappy.
